Conversation in Town Square

What's up, cinephiles! This weekend, the theaters are buzzing with the release of Zach Cregger's highly anticipated new take on Resident Evil. This isn't a continuation of the previous Milla Jovovich series; instead, Cregger, known for Barbarian and Weapons, delivers a complete reinvention of the video game franchise. Early reactions suggest a strong departure from what fans might expect, focusing on a new story with Austin Abrams as Bryan, a medical courier caught in a viral outbreak. The film is aiming to be the biggest opening in the franchise, with projections ranging from $40M to $50M this weekend. It's always fascinating when a beloved franchise gets a complete overhaul, especially with a director bringing a distinct vision. Does a fresh creative team and a new direction always breathe new life into an established cinematic universe, or do you prefer a consistent, evolving narrative? Let's discuss!
